"The ambience of the figures is intended to be reminiscent of 'antique' statuary - two in bronze and one in marble - but as the event is taking place there is a paradox giving a timeless quality.' P.B.B. 1970 (Antigone is the daughter of Oedipus and his mother, Jocasta. Here she comes to pour a libation over her dead brother, contravening a decree. Her punishment was to be buried alive, where she hung herself. This awful tale unravels in a play by Sophocles, and goes on, amazingly, to worse. )
