Subtitled "Ti tha kanomai, Kyrie Pavlo?". The painting started from a drawing made in Greece, was abandoned for a few years and reached its present state on return to England, "Ti tha Kanomai? meaning literally "what shall we do" is a common phrase in Greek and could be colloquially translated as "what's the use?" accompanied by a gesture of the right hand, probably a legacy from the four hundred years of occupation." (PBB 1970). The artist resisted the several offers made to buy this work as he was so fond of it.
