Carnival Night at a Taverna in Athens. 'Actual experience - painted from memory. An experience that refused to be expressed easily in paint! Experiment with quasi-accidental ornament and decoration in the static parts of the painting, although this can also be seen in "The Night Club" (Cat. No. 0074). The painting itself becomes more important than the prime actuality' (PBB, 1970).
