An early work in palette knife. 'For many years after hearing the music "The Childhood of Christ"(Berlioz) I carried the idea of trying to paint it. This was an endeavour at a refinement in keeping with the astringency of the instruments, and also with the painting of paintings. It is also the starting point of much of the thinking behind the "Orpheus" painting (Cat. No. 0051)" P.B.B. See also 'Childhood of Christ' (Cat. No. 0236).
