In the Old Testament, Susana is set up by the old men in the village who spy on her and accuse her of adultery (a capital offence). She manages to prove her innocence but not before having been dragged through the courts - plus ca change.
A very late work, actually the penultimate painting, in which the artist began to feel bored (after 60 years) and that he had 'done it'.
