"For many years after hearing it (Berlioz:-' Romeo and Juliet') I carried the idea of trying to paint it. Analogies cannot be pushed too far, in particular, perhaps, the music-paint analogy? I do not know how far the present "Feast of the Capulets" kept to the original idea of painting the music, some of the colour sequences have an affinity, the literal references of the trumpets, gong, and perhaps to a lesser extent the stairs and architecture will be obvious as are the apparently random composition and activities of the people." P.B.B. 1970.
