In his boyhood the culture of giving to the 'deserving poor', putting money in the poorbox in the Church, and donating items was very influential. Having got himself established in life he began to paint works for charity, and was very moved by the 'Children in Need' appeal, whereupon this work was made. 50% of the sale will be donated to this charity.
